Everything you need to know about 'Ombre' haircolor

Unless you've been living under a rock, you have no doubt seen someone rocking the ombre haircolor look.  Maybe you thought it was just a 'grown out root' look, but there is actually a technique behind it!  To simplify it, ombre is the look of haircolor graduating from dark at the roots to lighter on the ends.  In most instances, the difference between the top and the ends is only a couple shades, which gives it a subtle, blended look.  The idea is to be able to see the difference, but not so much that it looks trashy!  Ombre is great for someone who is very heavily highlighted and has been on the fence about going darker.  By keeping the ends, as well as a few face framing pieces lighter, you will not feel washed out by the darker shade. For those of you with darker hair, whether it's your natural shade, or colored, ombre' is a great option for you also! By lightening the ends just slightly, it will give your hair the look of someone who was on the beach all summer!  And the best part of trying the ombre look is, the maintenance is next to nothing!  You may need a root touch up, or a color refresher every few months, but other than that, once you do the initial color, you are good to go!  I've attatched a few examples of this look so you can better understand the technique.  I hope I've answered some of your questions, and that maybe you will consider giving it a try!  Thanks, and Happy Holidays !

Healthier Hair, Happier you!

Clients are constantly asking me things like 'what can I do to make my hair shinier?' , or 'how can I make my hair grow quicker?', and while I don't have the perfect answer, I can offer some tips and tricks to help your hair look and feel better than it ever has!  Here are a few of the rules I live by.....

-If you can handle it, don't shampoo your hair every day! Natural oils are what help stimulate hair growth, so by shampooing every day, you are stripping your hair of those much needed oils. I typically go two days between washes, and have been doing so for about two years now. Since then, I've noticed a huge change in the rate at which my hair grows!  If your hair begins to feel too oily for your liking, dry shampoo is a LIFE SAVER! Soon, I hope to have some reviews/recommendations on a few different brands of dry shampoo.

-Regular trims are a must, even if it's only a tiny bit! Although its a myth that trimming your hair helps the hair grow quicker, it does help the hair from splitting further up the shaft, which in turn means you don't have to cut as much dead hair off!

-Invest in good shampoo and conditioner.  I realize in this economy, pricey hair product is not high on the priority list, but, look at it this way, you pay good money to have your hair colored and/or highlighted, so spend the extra to protect your purchase.  Maybe it means cutting a little bit from another area of your budget, but I promise you won't regret it.  If you are getting regular highlights, that probably means you have some bleach in your hair, so a hydrating/moisturizing product would be the way to go, and if you are being colored darker than your natural, or having your grays covered, then a color protecting product would be the way to go.  Professional products are very concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way!

-Minimize heat.  Of course I'm not expecting anyone to drop their flat iron and just go au natural, but give your hair a break once in a while.  If you can get away with it, once a week, let your hair air dry and work with your natural texture ! If that is completely out of the realm of possibility for you, than at least use a heat protectant.  It will reduce the amount of breakage tenfold!

I hope the above tips were helpful, and I promise, if you take my advice, you will notice a difference in the health of your hair, and the longevity of your color!
